ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Design Systems
Clorox®, America's favorite disinfectant brand, boasts a wide range of cleaning products to keep environments germ-free. Managing such a diverse product lineup made the website large and robust, posing challenges in maintaining brand consistency, style sheets, and a user-centric digital experience.

Role and Responsibilities
Given the ever-growing roster of products, a tight design system was crucial for website expansion. As the Clorox® Creative Art Director, I maintained and oversaw the growth of the design systems library. I collaborated closely with internal design organizations, development, and UX teams. My role involved ensuring that the design system—a collection of reusable UI components—enabled the product teams to deliver a consistent user experience across all Clorox® digital products.

Challenges and Solutions

My strategic goal as the Clorox® Creative Art Director was maintaining hyper-focus and alignment with multidisciplinary teams. Partnering closely with the Product Manager, we set a roadmap to meet organizational objectives and prioritize workflows. Clear communication ensured the UX and Development teams were aligned with any component edits and additions.

Innovation and Creativity

Design systems are revolutionizing our approach to design by providing unified standards, tools, and components for creating efficient, consistent, and beautiful digital experiences. These systems enable teams to build products faster and more efficiently, streamlining the entire process.

Quantitative Impact
With the design system in place, project managers and operations can easily estimate monthly cost savings by reducing design hours and related expenses. The system’s development and maintenance have become a yearly budget item. Our design system includes pre-made elements, layout guidelines, typography, color standards, and other design components, ensuring uniformity across all Clorox® digital products while maintaining brand consistency and style.

Conclusion

By leveraging historical data and the rapid post-COVID response, the design system was designed to deliver a seamless user experience across all Clorox® digital products. The implementation of the design system has significantly streamlined workflows, reducing the time and effort required for updates and new designs. This system, rooted in robust design and UX/UI principles, ensures a consistent user experience, fosters engagement, and drives conversions. These elements, which echo Clorox's® heritage and history, not only enhance the user experience but also boost engagement and conversions.
